Defence families will benefit from a range of family support grants announced today by the Minister for Veterans' Affairs and Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence, Bruce Scott.

“A total of $225,582 has been allocated to Defence family support organisations across Queensland,” Mr Scott said.

The Defence Family Support Funding Program (DFSFP) provides funding for community projects developed by Defence families, increasing opportunities for Defence families to undertake self-help projects and determine needs in local areas.

“These grants will help assist Defence families implement a range of projects in pre-schools, kindergartens, child care organisations, neighbourhood houses, community centres, craft groups, playgroups, toy libraries and parent and citizen associations.”

The Minister made the announcement while presenting DFSFP cheques to a number of recipient organisations at Victoria Barracks in Brisbane.

“Our Defence families have a highly mobile lifestyle, and they can now have confidence that when they move to a new location, they will find family support groups offering a variety of activities for spouses and children,” Mr Scott said.

“They will also benefit from receiving a family newsletter and having access to a community centre or neighbourhood house.

“These facilities and activities will help provide valuable support to Defence families,”

Thirty-Eight organisations will receive funding in Brisbane, Amberley, Canungra, Darling Downs, Wallangarra, Townsville, Cairns, and extending as far north as Thursday Island.
