Bartlett Attacks Labor’s Lack of Support for Bells

Latest revelations of Labor’s lack of support for a Bells Line Highway has drawn strong criticism from Federal Member for Macquarie, Kerry Bartlett.

“Labor candidate Bob Debus and State Labor Minister Phil Koperberg have well and truly let the cat out of the bag. They have shown very clearly that Labor does not support an expressway across the Mountains.” Mr Bartlett said.

Recently Bob Debus told Lawson Chamber of Commerce that an expressway “is not economically viable and will not be built”.

Last week in the Blue Mountains Gazette, Mr Koperberg attacked Kerry Bartlett for supporting the expressway. “It could not be any clearer. Neither Federal Labor nor State Labor supports a Bells Line Expressway. The only way it will happen will be with a Liberal National Government,” said Mr Bartlett.

“Labor is wrong. An expressway across the Mountains is vital to boosting economic development and jobs in Lithgow, Bathurst and the Central West. It is the answer to saving lives and improving access to Sydney.”

“And it would also reduce the pressure on housing and urban sprawl in Sydney. Further, studies by Charles Sturt University’s Western Research Institute estimates that an expressway would repay itself in 10 years.”

“Clearly, Labor has no long term plan for development and jobs in this part of the state” said Mr Bartlett
