MINISTER TUCKEY ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR CENTRAL QUEENSLAND REGIONAL FOREST COMMITTEE Minister Tuckey today announced funding of up to $112,500 from the Farm Forestry Program under the Natural Heritage Trust for the new Central Queensland Regional Forestry Committee.

"I welcome the strong support from local government, the forest industry and the community for this important private forestry initiative," Minister Tuckey said. "The interest of these groups bodes well for the future of the Committee which must work closely with local and regional stakeholders."

The Commonwealth funding will be matched by the Queensland Government, local government, industry and the community and will support the operation of the new regional plantation committee until the end of December 2002.

"Regional plantation committees play an important role in the development of plantation, farm forestry and private native forest industries," Minister Tuckey said.

Minister Tuckey also paid tribute to the late Murray Goodman for the pivotal role that he played in gaining support for the establishment of the Central Queensland Regional Forestry Committee.

"I would like to acknowledge the dedication and vision of the late Murray Goodman to farm forestry in Central Queensland," Minister Tuckey said. "Murray’s invaluable contribution has been duly recognised in the announcement of the Murray Goodman Memorial Library."

The Inaugural Central Queensland Farm Forestry Seminar, that was held over the weekend,

was an important first step to formally promoting the benefits of farm forestry and providing opportunities for landholders to obtain information and establish contacts with members of the farm forestry network.
