$1 MILLION FOR NEW ENGLAND HIGHWAY ROADWORKS AT SOUTH GUYRA Work has started on rehabilitating a poor section of road pavement on the New England Highway through South Guyra, between Cameron and Everett streets, National Party Federal Member for New England, Stuart St.Clair, said today

The Federal Government is meeting the $1 million cost of the 1.7 km project.

“This section of the highway has required ongoing repairs due to the road surface regularly breaking up and it is no longer economical to continue patching.  A full rehabilitation is necessary and that is what we have agreed will happen,” Mr St.Clair said.

“The project also involves strengthening the road pavement and improving drainage along this important section of road,” he said.

“The completed work will reduce maintenance costs by providing a longer lasting and improved surface.”

“The Deputy Prime Minister and Minster for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson has been most accommodating in agreeing to fund this much-needed and valuable National Highway project.”

Where possible, inconvenience to traffic will be kept to a minimum on the South Guyra Project. However, motorists are asked to exercise caution when proceeding through the works and to comply with all temporary signposting and traffic control measures.

“This project will be completed by the end of March, weather permitting,” Mr St.Clair said.
