Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn has been advised by the Federal Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government, Wilson Tuckey that five organisations in the electorate have received Commonwealth Government funding totalling $152,955 for local projects.

The funding has been provided from the Commonwealth Government’s $43 million Regional Assistance Program.

“All these projects will generate local employment and I offer my congratulations to the proponents of the projects,” Gary Nairn said today.

Information on the projects for Eden-Monaro is as follows:

Cruise - The Garden of Eden $31,900 RAP funding to Bega Valley Shire Council This project will promote the potential of Eden as an International Cruise Destination. To harness Eden’s potential, an innovative, creative promotional concept will be used to promote Eden as an International Cruise Destination, and capture the current focus on Australia as a place to visit.

Boosting B&B’s on the Sapphire Coast $30,195 RAP funding to Boutique B&B Association of the Sapphire Coast Inc This project will increase the occupancy rates of boutique bed and breakfast establishments within the Sapphire Coast region through a coordinated marketing campaign.

Bombala Tourism and Business Development $33,000 RAP funding to Bombala Council This project will develop a marketing plan for the Bombala Railway Precinct, the newly restored Bombala Railway Station building and a number of other tourist attractions.

Batemans Bay Events $22,000 RAP funding to Batemans Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry This project will develop a marketing and promotional strategy to commercialise existing local tourist events and identify possibilities for new attractions and drawcards for Batemans Bay.

Angasi Oyster Project $35,860 RAP funding to Eurobodalla Shire Council

This project will facilitate the continued rapid growth of native Angasi oyster production as a niche market on the South Coast of NSW.

“These projects demonstrate how a particular partnership between government and the community can enhance local employment opportunities in our region.

“By accessing local skills and experience we can achieve sustainable employment growth that will benefit the whole community.” Mr Nairn said.

The South East NSW Area Consultative Committee (SEACC) has endorsed these projects as a significant employment generating opportunity for the local community.

SEACC is part of a network of 56 Area Consultative Committees throughout regional and metropolitan Australia which work in partnership with Government, business and the community to find sustainable solutions to regional employment issues.

The Regional Assistance Program, administered by the Department of Transport and Regional Services, provides seed funding for innovative, quality projects facilitating local solutions to local issues.
