Press Release

9 June 2006 UP TO $3000 GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR LOCAL VOLUNTEER ORGANISATIONS The Nationals Member for Riverina, Kay Hull, today urged local not-for-profit organisations to apply for grants worth up to $3000 to purchase equipment which will assist their volunteers in their work. Mrs Hull said applications are now open under the Australian Government’s Volunteer Small Equipment Grants (VSEG) 2006. “These grants recognise the valuable work Australia’s volunteers do in their local communities and are an ongoing part of the Government’s Stronger Families and Communities Strategy - Local Answers Initiative,” Mrs Hull said. “Local community organisations can apply for the grant, helping them to buy small equipment items to make the work of their volunteers easier, safer and more enjoyable. “In previous years, organisations have used the VSEG grants to purchase items such as trailers, fridges, garden tools and computers.” Mrs Hull said the Australian Government is determined to support the hard work and commitment of volunteer organisations to their local communities and these grants are just one example of the Government’s support. Information on the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants 2006 and an application form can be found at www.facsia.gov.au or by calling the VSEG hotline on 1800 197 760. A paper-based application kit can be obtained by phoning 1800 152 259. Applications close Friday 21 July. (End) For further information contact Rosie Ellis on 02 6921 4600 or 0428 214 600.
