Federal Government grant helps veterans claim benefits

The RSL Roma Sub-Branch will receive a grant of $2,362 from the Federal Government to help veterans and war widows make claims for pensions and other benefits, the Federal Member for Maranoa, Bruce Scott announced today.

Mr Scott said the funding has been approved as part of the Government's Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) program.

"This Government recognises the vital role played by ex-service organisations in supporting veterans, war widows and widowers through the claims application and appeals process, Mr Scott said.

"Through the BEST program, we are providing funds to ensure these organisations have the resources to provide and maintain quality services to members of the veteran community."

This grant will provide the RSL Roma Sub-Branch with $350 internet costs, $500 consumable costs and $233 travel costs. Additionally, the RSL Roma Sub-Branch will receive the use of one leased laptop computer and a computer helpdesk service.

"The grants program honours the Government's commitment to make the veterans' claims process fairer, easier to understand and more efficient," Mr Scott said.

"This grant is part of $1.640 million in BEST funding allocated during 2002-2003 to support ex-service organisations through improved resources and training programs."
