Joanna Gash Member for Gilmore

26 September 2005

Kiama residents are now able to lodge their Medicare claims through a dedicated Easyclaim booth at the Soul Pattinson Chemist, 68 Terralong Street, Kiama.

The Easyclaim booth allows Kiama residents to call Medicare Australia from a dedicated telephone, free of charge, without having to fill out forms.

Joanna Gash MP, Federal Member for Gilmore, has been instrumental in the establishment of this Easyclaim booth, by bringing the needs of the local community directly to the attention of the Government to make this service available to the residents of Kiama. The Minister for Human Services, Joe Hockey MP, commended Mrs Gash's commitment.

Many of the services you can access through a Medicare office are also available at Easyclaim booths. As well as claiming your Medicare benefit, you can request tax statements from Medicare, update your Medicare details for the Medicare Safety Net and sign up for the Australian Organ Donor Register. You can also get information about the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register.

Mrs Gash said the Easyclaim booth is an efficient, user-friendly system, 'A push of a button puts customers in direct contact with a customer service officer, who will then assist with your enquiry or claim.'

Customers who have paid their doctor's account will be able to have their Medicare benefits paid into their bank account within about three working days by electronic funds transfer or by cheque. Customers who haven't paid their doctor's account will receive a cheque in the mail to forward to their doctor.

Medicare Australia administers Australian Government health programs such as Medicare, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), the Australian Organ Donor Register and the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register. These services are the cornerstone of our public health system. Medicare ensures that all Australians have access to high quality and affordable health services.
