Opportunities for green project funding in Aston

Aston MP Chris Pearce today encouraged local community groups to apply for money from the Federal Government to help them undertake projects to restore and conserve the local environment.

Mr Pearce said funding from the Australian Government Envirofund would be allocated to projects with on-ground actions or to help groups improve their knowledge and skills to target local problems including waterway protection, tree-planting and erosion control.

“The Envirofund demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting local communities at the coalface in their efforts to develop solutions to environmental and natural resource management challenges in their area”, Mr Pearce said.

The Envirofund is the community component of the Howard Government’s $2.7 billion Natural Heritage Trust. Through the Envirofund, community groups can apply for grants from just a few hundred dollars up to $30,000.

Applications for this current round of the Envirofund close on 4 July 2003, and there will be another opportunity to apply for funding later this year. An Expression of Interest process is also available for those groups unsure about how to turn their idea into an application.
