$6,602 for Mildura Workingman’s Bowling Club

The local veteran community will benefit from an Australian Government grant of $6602 to the Mildura Workingman’s Bowling Club, The Nationals Federal Member for Mallee, John Forrest announced today.

Mr Forrest said the funding was approved under the Veteran and Community grants programme in recognition of the needs of veterans and war widows in Mildura.

“This grant will help the Mildura Workingman’s Bowling Club erect a retractable shade system to cover one end of two bowling greens. The project aims to improve the health and safety of veteran and other members by reducing exposure to the sun and resultant skin cancer and dehydration,” said Mr Forrest.

Mr Forrest advised that more than $2.8 million in funding was available for Veteran and Community Grants in 2005/06, providing important assistance to projects across Australia to help veterans, war widows and their dependents.

“These grants support a range of community activities which promote healthy lifestyles, help veterans live independently at home and support carers,” Mr Forrest said.

“Australians are grateful to our veterans and service personnel for their service and sacrifice in the defence of our nation and for their continuing contribution to our community.

“Through these grants to ex-service organisations and other groups, the Australian Government recognises the contribution of those who have served by assisting them in their local community.”
