Digital Education Revolution: Round Two now open, QLD secondary schools encouraged to apply

The Minister for Education, Julia Gillard, is encouraging eligible schools in Queensland to be part of the

second round of the Australian Government’s National Secondary School Computer Fund.

In Queensland 444 schools can apply for Round Two funding. This includes 284 government schools, 86

Independent schools, and 74 Catholic schools.

The National Secondary School Computer Fund is part of the Australian Government’s $1.2 billion Digital

Education Revolution, providing Australia’s secondary school students with information technology

equipment for a world-class education.

Parents, teachers and students have welcomed the Rudd Government’s commitment to help bring our

classrooms into the 21st century.

Outcomes from Round One, announced last month, delivered $116 million to a third of secondary schools

across Australia. Across Australia 896 schools were provided with funding to 116 820 computers.

In Queensland 70 government and non-government schools will benefit from Round One, including 12

government schools, 39 Independent schools, and 19 Catholic schools.

Round Two will enable the remaining two-thirds of Australian secondary schools to move to a target ratio of

one computer to every two students. Approximately 1900 Australian secondary schools will be eligible to

apply for grants in this round.

Applications for this round will close on 9 October and schools are encouraged to submit their applications as

soon as possible to enable schools to be advised of the outcome before the end of the school year.

The Rudd Government will continue to work with all State and Territory Governments and all State

Independent and Catholic School systems to deliver the Digital Education Revolution.
