MEDIA RELEASE Senator the Hon. Sandy Macdonald Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence Deputy Leader of The Nationals in the Senate PARLSEC 008/2006 Wednesday 22 February 2006 DIGO’S FUTURE IN BENDIGO ASSURED Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Senator Sandy Macdonald, has refuted claims by the Member for Bendigo that the Government is about to break its commitment to keep the Defence Imagery and Geospatial Organisation (DIGO) in Bendigo. “I can confirm that the Australian Government’s May 2004 commitment to relocate DIGO from its current location at the Fortuna complex to a new location in Bendigo has not changed,” Senator Macdonald said. “I would like to reassure DIGO employees that Bendigo will remain the centre of production of geospatial data and hard copy maps for the Australian Defence Force.” “This centre will continue to play an important role in supporting ADF operations and activities now and into the future.” “A decision concerning the new site for DIGO will be announced shortly,” Senator Macdonald said.
