CHRIS PEARCE MP Federal Member for Aston

Media Release

Child care providers in Aston are encouraged to apply for a share of the $12.8 million funding to help meet the growing demand for child care places, Aston MP Chris Pearce said today.

Mr Pearce said that applications were now open for funding to help both community based non-profit and private operators to establish new long day care centres and provide extra places under the Long Day Care Incentive Scheme.

Mr Pearce said that the Scheme would also support child care providers to supply places for families with children under two years by providing a higher subsidy per place for that age group.

“This latest investment builds on the Howard Government’s strong track record of helping families balance their work and family commitments through child care,” Mr Pearce said.

Mr Pearce said that the investment of an additional $251 million in the recent Budget comes on top of a record allocation of around $8.5 billion for child care for the next four years.

“The recent Budget builds on the Howard Government’s ongoing work in child care, by providing an extra 40,000 Outside School Hours Care places, an extra 4,000 Family Day Care places and increasing the Child Care Benefit,” Mr Pearce said.

Application forms and further information for providers is available by calling by 1300 653 227. Applications from community and private providers will close on 23 June 2004.
