SENATOR JOE LUDWIG

Shadow Minister for Justice and Customs Shadow Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Manager of Opposition Business in the Senate Labor Senator for Queensland

21 January 2005

McGAURAN’S MAGIC TRICK FOOLS NO-ONE

Yesterday’s announcement by the Liberal Government of a new harmony website was “a dud”, Labor’s Shadow Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Senator Joe Ludwig said today.

“Minister McGauran claims that he has set up a new website, when in fact all he has done is rebadge the old one and claim a new web address.”

The Minister claimed the new website would have information on: Harmony Day - which is held on March 21 each year; Living in Harmony (LIH) projects under which organisations are funded to implement activities that encourage social cohesion and, details of how people can become involved in LIH activities. (Minister McGauran’s statement 20/01/05)

“For the record, so did the old one. All he has done is set up a new domain name and copy the material across.”

“In fact, anyone can still see the old website, because McGauran is so slack he hasn’t managed to get it taken down yet.”

“This is yet another token effort from an arrogant Liberal Government.”
