Kelly announces Home and Community Care grants The Member for Eden-Monaro Mike Kelly yesterday(August 12) met with the Bega Valley Meals on Wheels manager Helen Dundas in Bega to congratulate her on receipt of Home and Community Care (HACC) grants worth $15,500.

Dr Kelly said their discussions on the HACC program and related issues was essential to keep him in touch and to provide constructive feedback. He was heartened by the good work organisations like Bega Valley Meals on Wheels do.

“This funding helps these kinds of organisations to continue the great work they do throughout the community,” Dr Kelly said

“Across NSW, more than $5.1 million has been provided to help more than 300 existing service providers improve facilities and services to benefit older people, people with a disability and their carers.”

Dr Kelly said HACC is a central element in the Government’s vision for a world-class community care-system that delivers high quality, affordable and accessible care to older people, younger people with a disability and their carers.

HACC grants in Eden-Monaro totalled nearly $260,000 and ranged from simple equipment for volunteer first aid training to office equipment, wheelchairs, eskies for transporting food, to office fit-outs and a $30,000 transport booking database.

“The Australian Government is working with the NSW Government to help older people and people with a disability to live as independently as possible in their own homes,” Dr Kelly said.

Grants for Eden-Monaro HACC providers included: QUEANBEYAN: $21,600 to Meals on Wheels Queanbeyan, $9,000 to Southern AHS HACC Consortium, and $60,845 to the Queanbeyan City Council.

TOTAL: $ 91,445

TUMUT: $34,500 to Valmar Support Services Ltd, $13,000 to the Tumut and Talbingo Community Transport Service

TOTAL: $ 47,500

EUROBODALLA: $82,000 to the Eurobodalla Community Transport, $10,000 to the Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels Co-Operative Ltd, $10,000 to the Eurobodalla Council for EuroCare MultiService Outlet TOTAL: $ 102,000

BEGA: $5,000 to the Bega Valley Meals on Wheels Co-operative Ltd, $10,500 to the Bega Valley Meals on Wheels Co-operative Ltd as a contribution to vehicle changeovers. TOTAL : $15,500
