Member for North Sydney, Joe Hockey MP, welcomes the Treasurer’s announcement that statistics online from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will be free from Friday.

Mr Hockey said local businesses and community groups and interested local residents stand to benefit from the ABS dropping most charges for information delivered via the internet.

"This is good news for all local organisations and businesses which routinely draw on ABS statistics to help them make informed decisions," Mr Hockey said, "and I urge the North Sydney community to take full advantage of the new free service."

"The Australian Government recognises the importance of access to official statistics to all decision-makers.
