Michael Organ MP

Greens Member for Cunningham

***** MEDIA RELEASE ***** 21 October 2003

Stephen Kenny, the Adelaide-based lawyer who represents the family of David Hicks, the Australian detained at the US Guantanamo Bay facility since December 2001, will be Cunningham MP Michael Organ’s guest for the address to parliament by US President George Bush on Thursday 23 October 2003.

“I am pleased that Mr. Kenny is able to take this opportunity to hear first hand what President Bush has to say about the war on terror, and I hope he will shed some light on David Hicks’ future”, Mr. Organ said today.

“The Greens have invited Mr. Kenny and the family of the other Australian detainee Mamdouh Habib to prick the government’s conscience over its continued failure to assist two citizens being held unlawfully without charge by a foreign power.”

“The presence of these three people in the public gallery also pays silent witness to the brutality of the conditions under which the United States’ government is holding hundreds of men at its base in Cuba.”
