Health Minister Tony Abbott will consider Wollongong Hospital’s magnetic resonance imaging machine in the context of addressing MRI access issues around Australia Cunningham MP Michael Organ said today.

“I have received a reply today to my representations regarding Wollongong Hospital’s MRI machine from the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing, Trish Worth, which says that the government remains committed to exploring the potential for further improvements in Medicare access to MRI”, Mr. Organ said.

“Ms Worth’s letter discloses that the Department of Health and Ageing is working with the radiology profession to identify options and review priorities for a controlled expansion of access to MRI.”

“I welcome her advice and look forward to the Federal government coming on board to provide the people of Cunningham with timely and affordable access to the vital diagnostic procedures provided by magnetic resonance imaging”, Mr. Organ said.
