REPORT INTO ROLE OF NATIONAL CAPITAL AUTHORITY

I welcome today’s report by the Joint Standing Committee on the National Capital Authority and thank Committee members for their hard work on this important matter.

The report’s focus on increased consistency and cooperation between the Commonwealth and the ACT on planning matters is also a welcome development.

The Government endorses the recommendation that ‘the Commonwealth Government affirm its direct and enduring commitment to the future of Canberra as a planned national capital on behalf of all Australians.’

The Government will now consider all of the report’s recommendations and understands the importance of these issues, particularly for the people of the ACT.
