The Hon Ian Macfarlane MP

Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources

The Rudd Government has failed to deliver on yet another election promise, after today refusing to confirm

details about its long-standing pledge to distribute revenue from the Gorgon gas project to Western Australia.

“Prior to the 2007 election Kevin Rudd made a promise that his government would provide the West Australian

Government with 25 percent of the Gorgon Petroleum Resources Rent Tax (PRRT), or about $100 million a

year,” Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources Ian Macfarlane said.

“Yet today in Question Time when given the opportunity to confirm the details of this arrangement, Mr Rudd

refused to do so.

“Mr Rudd has taken every chance during Question Time to claim his Government is owed all the credit for the

project, yet at the first opportunity has shied away from providing hard facts about how he intends to follow

through on his election promise.

“It’s business as usual for Mr Rudd who clearly sees the massive development as little more than another prop

for his political spin.”
