The Hon. Robert Tickner, MP

MINISTER FOR ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER AFFAIRS

10 January 1996

Appointment of new ATSIC Commissioner [Ms Carol Dalton]

Federal Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs, Robert Tickner, today announced the appointment of Ms Carol Dalton as a new ATSIC Commissioner.

Ms Dalton is presently an ATSIC Regional Councillor and is employed as the Administrator of the South Coast Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Nowra. Ms Dalton previously worked as a Senior Finance officer with Aboriginal Hostels Ltd.

Ms Dalton replaces Mr David Ross, who has taken up an appointment as Chair of the Indigenous Land Corporation.

Mr Tickner said he envisaged that with ATSIC moving to an all elected board following its 1996 elections, Ms Dalton would be the last Commissioner to be appointed by the Minister.

Ms Dalton will become one of the two ministerial appointments on the largely elected 19 member ATSIC Board.
