EDENHOPE COLLEGE FACILITY OPENED John Forrest, The Federal Member for Mallee will attend the official opening of the $2,835,283 capital works project at Edenhope College on Monday 17 May 2004.

The capital works being opened involve the Stage 2 Building Redevelopment of the Technology Wing, the Primary building and the relocation of two portable buildings - one new and other refurbished - onto the site to be used as general purpose classrooms.

Mr Forrest congratulated the school and its community on establishing the best possible facilities for their students.

The Australian Government contributed $600,000 toward the project with the school contributing $105,640 and the State providing the balance.

“This project demonstrates the Australian Governments commitment to providing every student with the best possible learning environment through the provision of these updated facilities,” Mr Forrest said.

“The Australian Government is committed to ensuring that every student receives a quality school education. For 2004 the Government is committed to providing some $7.1 billion for schooling, including nearly $336 million for capital projects in Australian schools.”

Specific funding is also being provided for literacy and numeracy, drug education and for a quality teacher programme to assist teachers to update their skills. Funding for Indigenous students is continued.

“These initiatives recognise community demand for improved literacy standards, safe and drug-free schools and a greater focus on the quality of teaching,” Mr Forrest said.
