LEADER of the OPPOSITION PRESS RELEASE

EXTRACTS FROM ADDRESS TO "INDUSTRY DIRECTIONS 89~90" A SEMINAR HOSTED BY JARDEN MORGAN AUSTRALIA AND THE NEWCASTLE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY

The Liberal and National Parties have released the most detailed, comprehensive and integrated policies ever produced by an Opposition.

What's Labor's answer?

Nothing.

Paul Keating's been very vocal in demanding to see our policies in recent m o n t h s .

Well now he has them. I sent him a copy even before they were

publicly released last week.

Now it's our turn to ask the questions, to demand the right to

see what the Government has to offer our nation.

Where's Labor's tax policy?

What are Labor's objectives on tax scales?

Will they match our historic commitment to hand back the proceeds of bracket creep?

What will Labor do to help working families?

Will they reduce the size of the public sector?

If so, where is their program of spending cuts?

Will they continue with an open-ended system of unemployment benefits?

Where is Labor's plans for microeconomic reform?

Where is their privatisation program?

Will they do anything to clean up the waterfront?

These are the questions the Government now has to confront.

I can tell you: I suspect they might be a bit short on answers.
