WOUNDED IN VIETNAM

An Australian Army adviser has been lightly wounded in Vietnam.

He is Warrant Officer Class 1 Edward William Gason, 49, married,

of Thornbury, Vic.

He sustained shrapnel wounds to the legs and is in the Van Kiep

Training Centre.

He was wounded early this morning when the Centre, was attacked by

at least 20 rounds of mortar fire·.

W01 Gason, who is Regimental Sergeant Major of the Australian Army

Training Team, is reported to be in a satisfactory condition.

The Van Kiep Training Centre is in Phuoc Tuy Province.

A number of Australians are stationed there instructing South

Vietnamese troops in jungle warfare tactics.
