MEDIAMICHAEL RONALDSONFederal M em ber for BallaratSHADOW MINISTER FOR SCHOOLS, VOCATIONAL EDUCATION _________________________ & TRAINING___________ ________________ ■9 March 1995GOVERNMENT TO SLASH FUNDING FOR POOR SCHOOLSThe Government is drawing up plans to renege on its commitment first contained in the 1992-93 Budget, to increase real per capita funding to those non-government schools which have been assessed as most in need.These plans have been drawn up by the Department of Finance, and have received the strong support of the Treasury, according to documents obtained by the Coalition.The government plans to slash $221 million in the next four years in funding to the poorest non-government schools which will affect around 700,000 primary and secondary school students.
