What was the weather like? Now you can find out online

Have you ever needed to find out what the weather was like yesterday, last week or even last month?

Every day, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology gets hundreds of requests about past weather conditions. From today, that information is freely available by accessing new web links at the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's website www.bom.gov.au.

Dr Sharman Stone, Parliamentary Secretary with responsibility for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology said the new Daily Weather Observations links will give Australians online access to updated daily weather observations for the past 12 months.

"These Daily Weather Observations are unique because a single summary for each location is formed by combining information from the Bureau's extensive weather observation network," Dr Stone said.

"People often need to know what the weather was like on a particular day for a range of reasons such as agricultural purposes and insurance claims.

"How early was the first frost this year and how severe was it or in the event of an insurance claim for example were driving conditions good or visibility low?

"Observational information including rainfall, temperature, cloudiness and wind speed and direction will now be available online for more than 700 locations across Australia.

"It will be updated twice a day and be of particular benefit to farmers, students, the insurance industry and the general public."

Dr Stone said Daily Weather Observations are available on the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au/weather/national/
