Funding Programs

Following is an update on funding and grants programs of the Australian Government.

Emergency Management Australia's Local Grants Scheme

• The scheme is intended to enhance the capability of communities to prepare for and respond to a disaster. This might include funding for the preparation of crisis management plans, or the establishment of infrastructure. Organisations eligible to apply for funding under the Local Grants Scheme are those which can be defined as a community ie; a group with a commonality of association and generally defined by location, shared experience or function.

National Emergency Volunteer Support Fund

• This program provides funding for projects which will boost the recruitment or retention of volunteers for emergency services. Funding is available to Australian Emergency Management Volunteer Forum member agencies and any other agency that have a defined role in State Response or Recovery plans.

In-Market Experience Scholarships (New Industries Development Project)

• This program will provide successful agribusinesses with up to $12,500 to pursue agricultural objectives and participate in a Business Readiness Workshop. It will assist agribusinesses with getting innovative ideas to the commercialisation stage as quickly as possible. Applications for this program close on 29 July 2005.

60th Anniversary of VP Commemorations Grants

• Organisations can apply for funding to hold commemoration activities to mark the end of Worl War 11 and the 90th anniversary of the Gallipoli Campaign. Grants of $10,000 are available to communities to support projects which promote community participation, give recognition to World War 11 veterans and heighten public awareness of the significance of VP day. Water Smart Australia Program

• Provides support for water resource projects contributing to the sustainable and efficient management of Australia's water resources in rural and regional areas.
