PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER $10M NEW FACILITIES AT RAAF BASE RICHMOND, NEW SOUTH WALES

The Minister for Defence, the Hon. Joel Fitzgibbon MP, and NSW Senator the Hon. Ursula Stephens, announced today that a $793.1 million construction proposal for new facilities and supporting infrastructure at Lavarack Barracks,

Townsville, Queensland and other Defence bases around Australia has been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works. Around $10 million of the $793.1 million will be invested in new facilities and supporting infrastructure at RAAF Base Richmond.

“The new facilities will address the needs of the Enhanced Land Force Stage 1 capabilities, including new working accommodation, plus extended and refurbished support and administrative facilities for additional Air Force elements at RAAF Base Richmond,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.

“The project will also provide facilities and infrastructure at Army bases in Townsville, Kapooka, Singleton, Holsworthy, Puckapunyal and Perth. Facilities will also be provided at RAAF Bases Amberley and Edinburgh for increased joint enabling elements resulting from the establishment of enhanced land force capabilities.”

Subject to Parliamentary approval, construction is planned to commence in mid 2009 and be completed in mid 2010.
