Member for Wannon - David Hawker - has welcomed the allocation of 200 more aged care nursing scholarships.

They have been released by the Commonwealth government and will allow students to train at a range of regional universities.

Mr. Hawker said today the scholarships were worth up to $10,000 a year.

“These scholarships are for the 2004 academic year and are part the Commonwealth Government’s commitment to provide up to 1000 aged care nursing scholarships over four years,” Mr. Hawker said.

“The 200 scholarships will be for undergraduates and those looking at ongoing professional development.

“The bottom line is that they offer significant help for people entering or re-entering the aged care nursing workforce.”

Mr. Hawker s said that for the 2003 academic year, 100 undergraduate and 114 continuing professional development aged care nursing scholarships were accepted.

Mr. Hawker said the scholarships were a tangible result of the government’s commitment to improving aged-care delivery.
