Federal Member for Wannon, David Hawker, today urged Western Victorians to beware of a new scam letter presently circulating through the post.

“Today a constituent has brought to my attention a letter personally addressed to himself of an attractive offer to share in $45.7m US dollars, purported to have been abandoned when a foreign investor died,” Mr Hawker said.

“The letter was post stamped in Spain and is obviously a scam.”

Mr Hawker fears that unsuspecting and vulnerable recipients may be lured into providing confidential information, particularly bank details, to the scammers behind the letter.

“There are always fraudsters dreaming up new ways to con people out of their savings or investments,” he said.

“I advise anyone in receipt of one of these letters to simply throw the letter in the bin.”

Mr Hawker said additional information is available to assist in detecting and avoiding scams at, and copies of The Little Black Book of Scams are available from Mr Hawker’s Electorate Office at 190 Gray Street Hamilton, 73 Kepler Street Warrnambool, or by calling 1300 131 692.
