Federal Member for Wannon, David Hawker, is urging Western Victorians to recognise the achievements of older people in our community by nominating them for an award.

“October 1 is International Day of Older Persons, and it provides us with an opportunity to recognise the contributions older Australians make through their work, their skills and by sharing their experiences,” Mr Hawker said.

“The day is also about encouraging participation by older people in community activities, as well as enhancing people’s attitudes towards our older people.”

Mr Hawker said Australia’s theme for the day is ‘Social Inclusion’.

“As part of the celebrations, I urge Western Victorians to recognise the achievements of outstanding older people in the region by nominating them for an award.

“For more information on how to nominate someone you know, call my office on 1300 131 692.

“Older Australians have helped shape modern Australia, and continue to make significant contributions to society.

“This is a great opportunity to recognise the efforts of our local older Australians,” he said.
