Senator Scullion welcomed funding of $110,000 for Indigenous High School students in the Northern Territory to be able to access School Based New Apprenticeships.

The Katherine Region School Based Apprenticeship Programme, under which at least 40 students including at least 26 Indigenous students, will be placed into School Based New Apprenticeships is a very worthwhile initiative for Katherine. The Burridj Aboriginal Group Training Company Pty Ltd, a group training organisation based in Katherine, will manage the project over eighteen months.

“The contract provides $110,000 over 18 months through the Group Training New Apprenticeships Targeted Initiatives Programme, which aims to strengthen the capacity of the group training sector to generate New Apprenticeship opportunities in prior areas and I am very pleased that the Northern Territory is a part of this wonderful opportunity for our young Territorians.”

“This project is designed to encourage both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students to stay engaged with the school system and then move into sustainable employment or further studies” Senator Scullion said.

“Young Territorians are the backbone to our future and this funding will ensure they have the opportunity to gain skills for future employment”.
