FEDERAL AIRPORTS CORPORATION BOARD MEMBERS

The Minister for Transport, Laurie Brereton, today announced the appointment o f a new Board for the Federal Airports Corporation (FAC).

From next Monday Mr Ian Ferrier will Chair the new Board. Mr Ferrier is the founding Senior Partner o f accountants Ferrier Hodgson & Co and has extensive experience in the corporate and business sectors.

The Government has also announced the appointments o f Ms Maxine Brenner, Mr Jeffrey David, M r Joe Gersh, Ms Penelope Hutchinson and Mr Peter Sams to the Board. They will join Mr Peter Core, Secretary of the Commonwealth Department o f

Transport, who will continue his previous Board appointment.

“The new Board will be faced with the task o f guiding the Corporation through the challenging period leading up to the withdrawal of direct Commonwealth responsibility for the operation o f Federal airports,” Mr Brereton said.

“Key tasks for the new Board will be to ensure that the airport leasing process is successful and to progress the development of Sydney West Airport so that it opens in time for the Sydney Olympics.”

Mr Brereton said he was particularly pleased that the Secretary o f the NSW Labour Council, Mr Peter Sams, who played a key role in the industrial relations success o f the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, had agreed to serve on the Board and to oversee the Sydney

West Airport project.

The Minister thanked the retiring Board Members for their work which has left the Corporation’s assets greatly enhanced.

“The Corporation’s achievements are a credit to the outgoing Board. Since it was established in 1988, the FAC has renewed and revitalised Australia’s airport infrastructure,” M r Brereton said.

BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS OF FAC BOARD APPOINTMENTS

IAN FERRIER

M r Ferrier, 55, is a Senior and founding Partner of Ferrier Hodgson, Australia’s largest firm o f reconstruction accountants. Mr Ferrier has handled some major administrations including Bond Corporation Holdings Limited, Compass Airlines and Rothwells Ltd. He is presently Chairman of a number of companies including Hill Young &

Associates, Cost Reduction & Corporate Reconstruction Services Pty Ltd, Port Douglas R eef Resorts Ltd and NSW Rugby Football Union Ltd.

MAXINE BRENNER

Ms Brenner, who is a Director o f the NSW Treasury Corp, worked as a solicitor with Freehill Hollingdale and Page from 1985 until 1991 in a range o f areas including corporate law, commercial, banking and finance law. Between 1992 and 1994, Ms Brenner taught administrative law and communications law at the University o f NSW.

JEFFREY DAVID

Mr David, 31, holds a degree in economics and began his career in the food industry with Davids Holdings Pty Ltd. Mr David has held the position o f Senior Vice President o f IGA Inc at the company’s headquarters in Chicago and in 1992 returned to Australia where he is now Managing Director of the Davids Limited Group.

JOSEPH GERSH

Mr Gersh, 39, is a Senior Partner in the law firm Arnold Bloch Leibler. Mr Gersh has responsibility for property group clients including work on major projects and mergers and acquisitions. Mr Gersh began his legal career as an articled clerk with the firm in 1980 and became a Partner in Arnold Bloch Leibler in 1982.

PENELOPE HUTCHINSON

Ms Hutchinson, 38, who is a member o f the Victorian Public Transport Forum, worked as an accountant and stockbroker before joining the NCSC. Ms Hutchinson worked in the Victorian Department o f Management and Budget and, in 1987, joined BDO Nelson Parkhill where she is now a Partner. Ms Hutchinson has specialised in consulting and management advisory services in both the public and private sectors.

PETER SAMS

Mr Sams has been Secretary o f the NSW Labour Council since May 1994. He joined the Council 13 years ago as Industrial Officer and became an elected Organiser in 1984 and Assistant Secretary in 1989. Mr Sams is a member of the ACTU Executive and Wages Committee and is Managing Director Radio Station 2KY in Sydney.
