ROWAN RAMSEY MP Member for Grey

MEDIA RELEASE

Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has urged solar companies and homeowners affected by the Labor Government’s means test on the solar rebate scheme to contribute to a Senate inquiry.

The inquiry has been set up following the outcry over the means test which has resulted in many home owners having to pay an extra $8000 to install solar panels in their homes.

There has also been a reported slump in contracts for solar panel companies.

Mr Ramsey said the Rudd Government’s pre-election rhetoric on climate change is in stark contrast to the message it is sending by means testing the rebate for solar panels.

“I encourage solar panel manufacturers, distributors and retailers to provide examples of how the means test has affected business,” he said. “I also encourage homeowners to take part in the inquiry.”

Submissions to the inquiry can be made now with the closing date July 21. The Senate inquiry is due to report by 15 August.

Terms of reference and further information about the inquiry can be found at www.aph.gov.au/senate/committee/eca_ctte/solar_rebate/index.htm
