FITZGIBBON ENCOURAGES SCHOOLS TO APPLY FOR SOLAR AND WATER GRANTS

Local schools can now apply for grants of up to $50,000 to install water and energy efficiency appliances, including solar panels, through the Rudd Government’s $480 million National Solar Schools Program, Mr Fitzgibbon said today.

“The National Solar Schools Program provides schools with an exciting opportunity to save energy, money and water with the flexibility to invest in a range of products - from solar panels to rain water tanks, insulation to awnings.”

“Schools can also set an invaluable example for their students and the wider community by providing hands-on experience of the simple steps we can all take to do our bit for the environment and help tackle climate change.”

“I would encourage schools in Hunter to visit the Federal Environment Department’s website to learn more about the program, look at what might work best for their circumstances and the enormous opportunities available

through the program.”
