ROWAN RAMSEY MP Member for Grey

Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said today the Agriculture Minister Tony Burke’s “announcement” that the State Government has applied for the submission of revised applications for three new Exceptional Circumstances areas in Grey is “old news”.

“This is just electoral spin,” Mr Ramsey said. “Re-announcing old news when he should be delivering the verdict from the National Rural Advisory Council (NRAC) is both misleading and cruel to those who are hanging out for the decision.

“I know Minister Burke received these applications on May 17 from the State Government. He informed me he had passed the submission onto NRAC within two weeks and he knows I have made repeated inquiries as to where the NRAC decision is up to. I even approached him personally in Parliament House.

“Mr Burke gave me his personal assurance in April when I took the EP Drought Task Force to meet him, he would give this process the utmost assistance to expedite the process. “This re-announcement of old events falls far short of an adequate response.

“I know in the Bundarra/Barraba area in the electorate of New England in NSW there has been NRAC approval for an extension of EC which took two months to deal with the case. “To the best of my knowledge NRAC has had two months to consider our case already. “These farmers don’t want announcements, they desperately need NRAC approval.”
