Organ backs school cleaners strike.

Cunningham MP Michael Organ has endorsed the four day NSW school cleaner’s strike, starting tomorrow 7 September 2004.

“Whilst I acknowledge the inconvenience that the strike will cause, it’s a drop in the ocean compared to the problems whole families will face in the future if the Government does not take public eduction seriously. The starting point here is properly resourced schools, including school cleaners with job security.”

“Let’s not forget that the State Government has no-one to blame for this strike except themselves. If the Government made job security and decent wages a condition of any contract to clean our public schools, this strike would not be needed and cleaners could get on with the job,” Michael Organ said.

“All workers have a right to expect permanent employment, that’s why I support the cleaner’s strike.”

“It’s a sad day when a Labor Government attacks cleaners like this,” Michael Organ said.

“This is a blatant attack on worker’s pay and conditions from a Government that should know better,” Michael Organ said.
