The Minister for the Interior, Mr Peter Nixon, announced today that he had ordered the dismissal from the Australian Capital Territory Police Force of Detective Sergeant First Class R.G. Turner,

The Minister said that Mr W.S. Flynn, S .IMI . , had conducted an enquiry under Regulation 11(A) of the Police Regulations into offences alleged to have been committed by Detective Sergeant Turner. He had been charged:-

(1) "contrary to Regulation 11(1)(e) of the said Regulations you were between 1 February, 1967

and 20 April, 1967 guilty of disgraceful conduct

in that you were knowingly concerned in an attempt

to organize unlawful gaming at the camp at Corin

Dam in the said Territory".

(2) '' that contrary to Regulation 11(1)(e) of the said Regulation you were guilty of disgraceful conduct in that you were between 1 January, 1967 and 31

December, 1967 improperly connected with unlawful gaming and betting at the camp at Gerin Dam aforesaid"'

Mr Nixon said that Sergeant Turner had denied these ch rge s

IAr Flynn, after his enquiry had found the first charge proved. He had found the second charge was not proved.

Mr Nixon said that having studied Mr Flynn's report he had decided to dismiss Sergeant Turner.
