Today the chairman of Nabalco Pty Ltd,Mr David

Grif: in--in accordance with the compan;r8s undertaking--handed the full feasibility report on its Gove alumina

project in the Northern Territory to the Minister for the

Interior,MMr Peter Nixon.

The project. , a 500, 000 ton alumina plant- on Gove

Peninsula. .will be built by December 31,1971.

It is e cpected to employ 800 people and to support

a population of 3000 in a new township at Gove.

The company's feasibility report---in eight volumes---covers every aspect of the p roject.. the mine, bauxite

treatment _Man t, W. rnsport, harbor, town and economics.

Mr Nixon said later: The report I received today is

truly a remarkable docuriient.I feel sure that never before

has so comprehensive and - so fully documented a report on a

prospective mining venture be:_;n presented to an Australian

Parliament."

It represented the result of two years continuous

study and its presentation was a credit to all concerned

with it,he said.

The Government wou1 study it ciosely.

Mr Nixon said the new plant would contribute to

development and 'industrial activity in a remote part of

Australia and provide employment op.ortunities for

aborigines.

Revenue from royalties would be paid into the

Aborigines Benefits Trust Fund to benefit aborigines

generally.
