An international seminar on the use of

data from meteorological satellites will be held in

Melbourne in November, the Minister for the Interior

Mr. PeterNixon, said today.

The seminar :could be s onsore t by the

World Meteorological Organisation under its technical

assistance programme and was designed to train

meteorologists from south-east Asian countries.

Mr. Nixon said it was hoped that about 12

meteorologists from this region would attend, as

well as meteorologists from all Australian States.

One of the lecturers would be Mr. G.T.

Rutherford, in charge of the Bureau of Meteorology

central analysis office and an expert in the

interpretation of satellite data, who was a

lecturer at a similar seminar in Tokyo three years

ago.

The two week seminar would be held at the

National Science Centre, oarkville, which was being

erected as a memorial to the late Sir Ian Clunes

Ross, a former chairman of CSIRO.
