NEW WEBSITE PROMOTES COMMERCIAL DISPUTE RESOLUTION

A new website promoting the skills of Australian arbitrators and mediators in the resolution of international commercial disputes has been welcomed today by the Attorney-General, Philip Ruddock.

The website is a portal providing current and relevant information on international commercial dispute resolution in Australia and links through professional organisations to Australian service providers.

Mr Ruddock said the website would be particularly beneficial to Australian businesses operating overseas.

“Australian arbitrators, conciliators and mediators are increasingly attracting international recognition for their skills in the resolution of commercial disputes both on and offshore,” Mr Ruddock said.

The new website is an initiative of the Australian Government’s International Legal Services Advisory Council (ILSAC).

Mr Ruddock said arbitration is the most widely used method of resolution of international commercial disputes.

“The increasing use of alternative dispute resolution in commercial disputes in Australia is leading to recognition internationally of the benefits of other forms of dispute resolution, such as expert determination and mediation,” he said.

The website offers a convenient point of access to all forms of alternative dispute resolution now provided by Australian arbitrators and professional organisations and service providers.

The International Commercial Dispute Resolution website is at www.icdr.gov.au
