MEDIA RELEASE The Hon John Cobb MP Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Transport and Regional Services

23 June 2005 C30/2005

The resignation today of John Anderson, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, from his ministerial duties will see one of Parliaments most passionate advocates for regional Australia step down from Federal Cabinet.

"John Anderson fully understands country Australia, its farmers, its towns and cities, and the hopes and aspirations of the people who live there, said John Cobb.

"His record of achievement for the Nationals and the Australian Government is unsurpassed. His achievements in transport reforms and the National Water Initiative to name just two areas will leave a legacy for all Australians that will be measured and remembered for many decades to come.

"Above all John Anderson is the most decent member of this Parliament, said John Cobb.

"John Anderson has earned and retained the respect of both colleagues and political opponents for his dogmatic determination in developing and leading debate on public policy while never compromising his personal beliefs.

"I am proud to have been a member of the Nationals under the leadership of John Anderson, a man of vision, determination, compassion and integrity, said John Cobb.
