Safer Bruce Highway south of Cairns

 $8.8 million safety upgrade complete at Eubenangee, 80 kilometres south of Cairns  Upgrade includes wider centrelines and line marking between Todd Road and Canal Creek  Project part of $50 million Bruce Highway Pavement Widening upgrade between Ingham and Cairns

The road from Ingham to Cairns is now safer for all drivers following the completion of an $8.8 million safety upgrade to the Bruce Highway at Eubenangee, between Todd Road and Canal Creek.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said wide centreline treatment works had been carried out along a 3.3-kilometre section of the highway 80 kilometres south of Cairns, greatly reducing the risk of head-on crashes.

*^ The Australian Government has committed $40 million to the $50 million Ingham to Cairns Pavement Widening project in partnership with the Queensland Government *t all part of the extensive road upgrade along the Bruce Highway.

*^ These types of safety works along the Bruce Highway continue to deliver economic opportunities for north Queensland with an average of 26 direct jobs created as part of the Eubenangee section upgrade*X*_

Construction on the works at Eubenangee started in January 2017 and was completed in November 2017 on time and on budget.

The overall upgrade between Ingham to Cairns is due for completion in mid-2019.

This project is part of the jointly funded $8.5 billion Bruce Highway Upgrade Program. The Australian Government has committed up to $6.7 billion to fund projects on the Bruce Highway over the 10-year period from 2013*t 14 under the program.
