APPOINTMENT TO THE FEDERAL COURT OF AUSTRALIA

Today I announce the appointment of Mr Simon Steward QC as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Mr Steward will commence in the Melbourne Registry on 1 February 2018.

Mr Steward graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) in 1990, and a Master of Laws in 2000. He was admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1992 and signed the High Court Roll the sa

me year.

Mr Steward commenced his career in the law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques where he worked as a Solicitor and later Senior Associate in the Revenue Group from 1992 to 1999. Mr Steward was called to the Victorian Bar in 1999, and took silk in 2009.

Mr St eward’s principal areas of practice include taxation and revenue law, administrative law

, constitutional law, commercial law, corporations and securities law, and banking and finance law.

I congratulate Mr Steward on his appointment and thank him for his willingness to serve the people of Australia.
