Almost $3 billion worth of contracts awarded on the Woolgoolga to Ballina section of the Pacific Highway upgrade

Contracts totalling almost $3 billion have now been awarded on the 155-kilometre Woolgoolga to Ballina section of the Pacific Highway upgrade.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the milestone showed the sheer scale of one of **µ*ê*ö*Ã¥***o*]***[*ê**u*}*ê*ö**ê*]*P*v*]*(*]*****v*ö**]*v*(*Ã¥***ê*ö*Ã¥*µ***ö*µ*Ã¥****â*Ã¥*}*i*****ö*ê*U**¡*]*ö*Z****}*u*â*o***ö******¡*}*Ã¥*l*ê****o*}*v*P**ö*Z****(*µ*o*o*W*****]*(*]***,*]*P*Z*¡***«**o***v*P*ö*Z****o*Ã¥*******«* delivering safer roads and reducing fatalities.

*^d*Z****(*]*Ã¥*ê*ö**ö*¡*}**ê*****ö*]*}*v*ê**}*(**ö*Z***t*}*}*o*P*}*}*o*P****ö*}*****o*o*]*v a upgrade, 22 kilometres of new divided highway between Woolgoolga and Glenugie, were recently opened, delivering a safer and more reliable road network along the New South Wales north ***}***ê*ö*U*_*D*Ã¥ Chester said.

Each new section that opens contributes to saving motorists time, with travellers now saving more than an hour and three quarters, compared to pre-upgrade travel times, from Hexham to the Queensland border.

NSW Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey said the progress was continuing, with the contract for the main civil work between Iluka Road and Devils Pulpit awarded to BMD Constructions.

*^d*Z*]*ê**¡*]*o*o**]*v*¿*}*o*¿****µ*â*P*Ã¥*****]*v*P*****Ì*ï·¿*X*ı -kilometre section of highway, creating about 120 jobs, with about 2,500 direct and *Û*U*Ã’*Ï*Ï**]*v***]*Ã¥*****ö**i*}***ê****∆*â*****ö******ö*}*******ê*µ*â*â*}*Ã¥*ö******]*v**ö*Z******Ã¥*}*******Ã¥**¡*}*Ã¥*l*(*}*Ã¥********ö**ö*Z****â*****l**}*(**¡*}*Ã¥*l**}*(**ö*Z****â*Ã¥*}*i*****ö*U*_*D*Ã¥*ê Pavey said.

Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan said this was the final main civil contract to be awarded on the Woolgoolga to Ballina section.

The Pacific Highway works have created or supported thousands of jobs throughout the region *t from construction workers *ö*Z*Ã¥*}*µ*P*Z**ö*}**o*}*****o****µ*ê*]*v***ê*ê***ê*U*_*D*Ã¥ Hogan said.

NSW Member for Clarence Chris Gulaptis said the contracts awarded to date showed the complexity of the project.
