APPOINTMENTS TO THE FAIR WORK COMMISSION

Minister for Employment, Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, today announced the appointment of two new Deputy Presidents and a Commissioner to the Fair Work Commission.

Mr Peter Anderson has been appointed Deputy President, commencing on 18 April 2017. Mr Anderson is a former Chief Executive of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry who now runs his own consultancy, Pinpoint Enterprises, an industrial and business consultancy.

Mr Alan Colman has been appointed Deputy President, commencing on 26 April 2017. Mr Colman is a Partner at Corrs Chambers Westgarth in Melbourne.

Ms Sarah McKinnon has been appointed Commissioner, commencing on 1 May 2017. Ms McKinnon is General Manager, Workplace Relations and Legal Affairs, National Farmers’ Federation.

The terms of these appointments are from the date of effect until the appointees reach the statutory retirement age of 65.

The three appointees have excellent knowledge and the necessary experience for appointments to the Commission under the Fair Work Act. The appointees are highly qualified and well regarded in their respective professions. They will bring comprehensive expertise and valuable skills to the Fair Work Commission.

Mr Peter Anderson

Mr Anderson is currently the Principal of Pinpoint Enterprises, Industrial and Business Consultancy, and was previously the Chief Executive of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr Anderson has over 30 years experience in workplace relations as a lawyer, advocate and policy expert. He has held a range of significant positions including as a member of the National Workplace Relations Consultative Council and the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation.

Mr Anderson holds a Bachelor of Laws with honours.

Mr Alan Colman

Mr Colman is a Partner at Corrs Chambers Westgarth in Melbourne specialising in employment and workplace relations. Mr Colman has two decades experience as a workplace relations lawyer and has also worked for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and at the United Nations at other times during his career.

Mr Colman holds a Master of Laws and a Master of Arts.

Ms Sarah McKinnon

Ms McKinnon has significant workplace relations experience in both the private and public sectors. She has been the General Manager of Workplace Relations and Legal Affairs at the National Farmers’ Federation since 2014 and is currently a member of the National Workplace Relations Consultative Council. Ms McKinnon previously worked in the Australian Public Service as a Principal Government Workplace Relations Lawyer at the Department of Employment. She has also been the Workplace Relations Manager and Advisor for a workplace relations consultancy and has extensive experience representing small and medium-sized businesses.

Ms McKinnon holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Economics.
