LABOR BUILDS ON HEALTH CARE REFORM RECORD WITH NATIONAL HEALTH SUMMIT

More than 150 of Australia’s leading thinkers and experts in health will unite in Canberra today in an open and transparent discussion on the future of our health care system.

Today’s National Health Policy Summit is another way that Labor is leading the debate in health policy.

Labor is proud of the health policies that we took to the last election and of our record in Government. As we move towards the next election we will continue to prepare the health policies Australian families need for the future.

There has been a complete lack of vision for health in Australia under the Abbott/Turnbull Government. Reform hasn’t just been stagnant - in some areas Australia has actually gone backwards. The Government’s approach to health, mental health and ageing has been characterised by cuts and chaos under three Ministers.

Not only does our health system deserve more - it needs more. The Government simply isn’t filling this space, so Labor will.

As part of this, we want to work with the people who know our system best to give Australian families the best health policies.

Today is an opportunity for us to look beyond the next Budget, or the next election, and focus instead on the next generation.

Today is about listening to the experts.

Today is about looking at what we do - and how we can do it better.
