Federal funding to build picnic shelter in Myrtleford

A Federal funding initiative aimed at building community infrastructure will provide shelter for those utilising a Myrtleford park. Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan, congratulated the Alpine Shire Council on receiving $18,125 for the Cundy Park Picnic Shelter.

The project will include:

 Paving;  The replacement of the old barbecue and its relocation under cover of the shelter;  The implementation of picnic table/s in the shelter;  Provision of a water tap; and,  Security lighting.

Ms McGowan said Cundy Park is a major open space reserve in Myrtleford, which has a large adventure playground, a skate park, picnic facilities and a public toilet. However, there are no sheltered areas for the use of a barbecue or to get out of the weather.

“The project will bring new users to the park and enhance the experience of existing users across its facilities,” Ms McGowan said.

Alpine Shire Council provided $18,875 for the project while Cundy Park Steering Committee raised $13,000. The total cost of the project is $50,000.

“Congratulations to the Cundy Park Working Group who raised substantial funds for this shelter through various means including the Into Our Hands Community Fund, Alpine Rally Group, Lions Club and local fundraising,” Ms McGowan said.

“I look forward to seeing the picnic shelter completed by the end of this year.”

This funding was delivered under Round Two of the Federal Government Stronger Communities Programme (SCP).
