AEC Declares Poll in Cowper

Federal Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker has attended the formal declaration of the 2016 Federal Election poll for the electorate of Cowper at the Australian Electoral Commission office in Kempsey.

The event is a formal ceremony for the declaration of the poll, where all candidates who ran in the seat of Cowper are invited to attend and those present are given the opportunity to speak at the ceremony.

“It is a great honour to be re-elected for a sixth time as the Federal Member for Cowper and my role now is to ensure I continue to be an effective voice in Canberra for the constituents of Cowper,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“I will also work hard on delivering Coalition Government commitments made during the campaign across the electorate,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

The declaration of the poll is a requirement of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 (Section 284) that the Divisional Returning Officer publicly declare the name of the successful candidate.

The AEC holds the formal declaration ceremony to also declare that the member is duly elected and can commence their official duties as the appointed member for their division.
