The Member for Mallee, Andrew Broad, has made a further Stronger Communities

Programme (SCP) announcement today, revealing that the Glenorchy Golf Club has been

successful in its application for funding under Round One of the Programme to replace its


“Golf has always been a valuable part of country life and the Glenorchy Club holds particular

significance as it is the only sporting club remaining in the town and therefore various other

community groups rely on it as a venue for meetings and functions.

“Ensuring the Glenorchy Club can continue to meet the needs of the community is important,

so I’m delighted to be able to announce that the Club will receive $5000 via the Stronger

Communities Programme.

“The Club’s ageing kitchen will be updated, with new appliances and a practical fitout that will

enable people to make better use of the Club for social functions.

“Some funding will also be put towards the purchase of a new laptop computer for the Club.

“This is precisely the kind of project that the SCP seeks to support and the Golf Club

submitted a quality application and is thoroughly deserving of the funding.

“The Committee should be commended for its efforts and I look forward to seeing the project

completed and serving the people of Glenorchy.”

The Golf Club applied for funding under the Stronger Communities Programme, which was

one of the initiatives to come out of the 2015 Federal Budget, to assist with regional


The Programme aims to support smaller, community based projects.

A number of groups across the Wimmera and Mallee lodged applications and further

announcements regarding successful projects are still expected in the coming days.
